New year's resolutions are OUT

New year's resolutions are OUT

First off, happy new year!

Didn't 2025 come around fast...

Sometimes, when we enter a new year, we can feel pressured into making a long list of new year's resolutions. Perhaps a goal to get in shape and lose a few kilos, or to follow a strict diet and exercise routine. Maybe you want to start a new business venture, or purchase your first home.

Sounds great, right?

Well. In theory, yes. Having a goal to change your life and chase your dreams is wonderful. But are the resolutions realistic? Setting yourself up for failure right at the start of the year could have a hugely negative effect on your mental health when you realize you aren't getting that promotion, or the business venture didn't work out. New years resolutions can be demotivating, leaving us feeling like failures. They can trigger anxiety, depression and cause stress. Why not focus instead on improving our mental health? On setting goals the kind way...

Be kind to your mind.

Punishing yourself isn't going to make you achieve your goals any faster. It will just make you miserable and far more likely to give up! It's easy to overlook all the accomplishments you have made. Keeping a log of something you did each day that you are proud of works wonders as a confidence booster when you need a pick-me-up!

The power of journaling

Having a journal to flick through with all your accomplishments is amazing for your mental health. I found writing something I'm proud of myself for, something that made me smile, and something I'm looking forward to help boost me mentally when I flick back through my previous logs in my journal.

But how will a journal help me?

Glad you asked! I have a journal that is also a self help book with a complete and extensive mental health toolkit. Each tool has been chosen by me, because I use them myself! Having struggled with OCD, anxiety, panic attacks, depression and eating disorders, I have had first hand experience with using a wide range of self care and self help tools given to me by therapists and psychologists.

2-in-1 self help journal

I decided to create this book after a 6 week inpatient stent in hospital, where I was provided first-hand access to mindfulness classes, meditations, a variety of therapies from DBT and CBT to Exposure Therapy and IPT. I learned that healing is holistic; I couldn't just do one thing and get well. I needed to work to achieving inner calm, so I had less generalized anxiety. I needed tools to help me "snap out of it" in the midst of a panic attack. I needed pick-me-ups to ward off depression, and so on.

For mental health sufferers, by a mental health sufferers

My experience taught me I needed to work on improving various aspects of my life if I wanted a change. And there was nothing out there that was easily accessible with guidance on how to do that. Self help books written by professionals are often very "wordy", so I'm unlikely to read them! The book I have created has the minimum amount of explanation needed for each tool in the toolkit. I have created illustrations so it is easy to follow. On each journal page, there are references to the various tools, to remind you to practice them regularly. I swear by these tools, and to this day I use them regularly.

I am now able to self regulate before a panic attack.

I can honestly say these have been life changing for me. And if they've helped me, perhaps they could help you too.

If you want to improve your general mindset, mental health and well-being this year, this 2-in-1 self-help journal and mental health toolkit could be exactly what you need. 🙂
